I’m off again on another rabbit trail.

Recently I attended The Potter’s Institute. I took a class on The Bible and Money. The class was very thought provoking as we had to do a five page paper on the definition of money.

In my research I discovered a book written by Randy Alcorn, Money, Possessions & Eternity. It has been very enlightening book. My reading this morning keyed me in to the following from page 99, “Our giving is the conduit, container, or means that safely delivers the treasures to heaven. We provide assets for ourselves in heaven by giving away our assets on earth.”

Hmmm….Something to meditate on today.

The last time I wrote I was speaking about auditioning for one of the choir’s at my church. Although I didn’t get placed in the Grammy Award winning choir, I did get placed in The Bishop’s Choir. I found out that this was the choir that God wanted to place me in.

There are some things you need to know before I go further. First of all, for those of you who do not know, The Potter’s House church’s pastor is T.D. Jakes. He has been featured on Time Magazine’s cover in 2001. Second, you need to understand that I am Caucasian. Third, my church is a very culturally diverse church; however, over half of the people who attend are African American. Finally, the choir that I was placed in was all African American. So, as you can imagine, people noticed me right away. So much so that one time I was in Big Lots (which is 10 miles away from my church) and a member (who is Hispanic) said, “You sing in the choir at The Potter’s House.” Of course, I said yes, but as you can tell, people did notice me.

Well, the director of The Bishop’s Choir is such a godly woman. She has drive, a fire in her belly, but most of all — she is anointed by God. She is taking the choir to new levels. I’m getting excited just talking about it.

But this choir — The Bishop’s Choir — has so much love in it! Not one time have I ever felt isolated, separated or shunned. These godly men and women of God love each person individually. But again, that’s why I came to this church that God sent me to. The people are warm, friendly, and loving. Now, don’t get me wrong, you still have a few people who don’t even want to sit near me, but that’s okay — I love them no matter what as they are God’s child. So — I’m in the right choir.

But living my dream — how does this relate? I’ll tell you more….later.

Living Your Dream

August 3, 2006

When I was little I used to imagine that I was a singing sensation. I could sing you every single song on “The Sound Of Music“. Julie Andrews could sing up high — and so could I. I always thought that I would be a singer.

Later on when I was in 5th grade I thought I was going to be a meteorologist. Living in the Central South (Dallas, Texas) we often had Tornado Watches and Warnings. Tornadoes really fascinated me. One time I even wrote a report on them. I truly thought I was going to do that when I grew up, but I found out later how much I really did not like science. Not in the game plan after that.

Well, here I am now in my 40’s and I’m not a singing sensation, but I sure do love singing. So much so that I tried out for my church choir back in 2004. It was for The Potter’s House church. At the time that I auditioned there were two choirs: 1) The Potter’s House Choir which is a Grammy Award winning choir for their album “A Wing And A Prayer” and 2) The Bishop’s Choir. I didn’t get into the Grammy Award winning choir, but God did place me in the right choir.

More on this tomorrow…

I Found My Vision!!!

July 29, 2006

I can’t tell you how many times lately that I have been having trouble concentrating when I am at work. I recently was reading in John Maxwell’s book, Leadership 101 the Pareto Principle. I discussed this principle in my blog, Tools of the VA. The principle basically states that 20% of what you do will give you 80% of your production.

Lately, my to do list has been long! I have had trouble focusing. Why? I believe that the enemy (satan) is trying to distract me into my God given assignment. God wants me to focus on His priorities for that day — even if it is only 1, 2, or 10.

I read today in Romans 12:11: “Never be lazy in your work, but serve the Lord enthusiastically.” But before that verse, it keyed in on one of my gifts in Romans 12:7: “If your gift is that of serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, do a good job of teaching.” I know that I am to serve others, that’s why I’m a Virtual Assistant. I know that God has called me to this position. I have a degree in Marketing, but I am finding that God wants me to serve Christian Entrepreneurs to help them complete their vision and if my marketing degree gets thrown in there — all the better.

My vision is to help other people attain their vision! WOW! I found it.

Now back to the lazy verse. I’ve been lazy. I admit it! There it is out in the open. I can now go forward. Thank you Lord! I have the ability to do all that you have called me to for today. I am leaning on you!

Today I finally figured out why we stand everytime we read the Bible in church. I found a nugget today in my reading. It is found in Nehemiah:

Nehemiah 8:5-6, 8
And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, for he was standing above all the people; and when he opened it, all the people stood up. And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. Then all the people answered, “Amen, Amen!” while lifting up their hands. And they bowed their heads and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground.

8 So they read distinctly from the book, in the Law of God; and they gave the sense, and helped them to understand the reading.

How many times have I wondered why we stand up during the reading of God’s word? Now I now — it’s biblical.

Thank you Lord for showing me something new!

Focus and Your Mind

July 14, 2006

I was reading yesterday one chapter in Stormie Omartian’s book, “The Power of a Praying Woman”. In it she gives some great insight from the bible that I would like to share.

“When the thoughts that you think begin to question and contradict God’s Word, you are being set up by your enemy…Certain thoughts may appear to you to be accurate, but when you hold them up next to God’s Word, the lie is exposed.”

Later on she says:

“You have a choice about what you will accept into your mind and what you won’t. You an choose to take every though captive and ‘let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus’ (Philippians 2:5), or you can allow the devil to feed you lies and manipulate your life. Every sin begins as a thought in the mind”

You have to rebuke the thoughts of satan by remembering that you have the mind of Christ. Speak to satan now and rebuke the thoughts he is trying to tell you. Remember Phillipians 4:8…

And now, dear brothers and sisters, let me say one more thing as I close this letter. Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. (NLT)
