Stand True

August 25, 2008

Be on guard. Stand true to what you believe. Be courageous. Be strong. And everything you do MUST be done with love. (emphasis mine)
1 Corinthians 16:13-14

Do you know where else in the bible that it asks you to be courageous and strong? Tell me if you know – remember to write where it is in the bible in your comments. Hint — it is in more places than you think!

It’s been a while since I posted.

I have been writing in my journal everyday but a shift is happening in my heart. One of the shifts is to give my job 100% of my time. I have cut down tremendously on infringing on my employer’s time. I found myself letting things begin to slide. Filing has been piling up. Grant requests have gone unwritten. Things have been getting out of control. God keeps nudging me and saying, “You need to stop it!” It reminds me of Mark 12:17:

And Jesus answering said unto them, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar‘s, and to God the things that are God’s. And they marvelled at him.”

I want the Lord to bless the works of my hands (Deuteronomy 24:19). I want to be a blessing. I want to acknowledge God in my work. Please pray with me that God continues to remind me and keeps me focused in the coming days and weeks as I learn to change the way I do business.

Okay…on to my reading today and the words He has spoken to me that mean something today:

Overlook the stubborness and sin of these people, but remember instead your servants Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
Deuteronomy 9:27

Thought…do we need to remind God? I think he wants confession from our mouth about certain things. He wants us to think about things that are praise worthy? Wasn’t the life of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob praise worthy? So, yes…I think God wants us to remind him because in essence we are reminding ourself of His word. Meditating on it day and night (Joshua 1:8).

At that time the LORD said to me, ‘Prepare two stone tablets like the first ones, and make a sacred chest of wood to keep them in. Return to me on the mountain and I will write on the tables the same words that were on the ones you smashed. Then place the tables in the sacred chest – the Ark of the Covenant.’
Deuteronomy 10:1-2

Thought – does that mean that the commandments were in a wooden box and then all of that was placed in the Ark of the Covenant? I think I’ve read somewhere that some people think that the wooden box was the Ark of the Covenant. I tend to read this as a box within a box…just something to ponder.

Thinking of Jesus being wrapped with flesh. Spirit/Flesh – box within a box?

Jotbathan or Jotbath- a land with brooks of water – pleasantness.

And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you? He requires you to fear him, to live according to His will, to love and worship Him with all your heart and soul, and to obey the LORD’s commands and laws that I am giving you today for your own good. The highest heavens and the earth and everything in it belong to the LORD your God.
Deuteronomy 10:12-14

You must fear the LORD your God and worship Him. Your oaths must be in His name alone. He is your God, the one who is worthy of your praise, the one who has done mighty miracles that you yourselves have seen.
Deuteronomy 10:20-21

What miracles have I seen that portray his mighty miracles? Me — my testimony! And that’s not all…I continue to look for healing for my sister and restoration for every person in my family. Thank you Lord for the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. What about you — what mighty miracle have you seen?

This is the meaning of the story: The seed is God’s message.
Luke 8:11

But the good soil represents honest, good-hearted people who hear God’s message, cling to it, and steadily produce a huge harvest.
Luke 8:15

For everything that is hidden or secret will eventually be brought to light and made plain to all.
Luke 8:17

The LORD Was Merciful

January 8, 2008

When Lot still hesitated, the angels seized his hand and the hands of his wife and two daughters and rushed them to safety outside the city, for the LORD was merciful.
Genesis 19:16

And the city has no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its light.
Revelation 21:23

On that day the sources of light will no longer shine, yet there will be continuous day! Only the LORD knows how this could happen! There will be no normal day and night, for at evening time it will still be light.
Zechariah 14:6-7

Daybreak

November 21, 2007

Gotta post this clip. The song is in the middle of some other hits of Barry Manilow’s, but I remember the song Daybreak specifically. When I was a teenager, this particular song was played every morning, all week long during church camp. I mean, I loved the song, but I didn’t get it. Now that I am wiser (thank you Jesus), I truly get the lyrics!  WOW! BTW, you are probably saying…this girl has some wide variety of music!  🙂

DAYBREAK

I’m singin’ to the world
Its time we let the spirit come in
Let it come on in
I’m singin to the world
Everybodys caught in the spin
Look at where we’ve been
We’ve been runnin around
Year after year blinded with pride
Blinded with fear

But its daybreak if you wanna believe
It can be daybreak, ain’t no time to grieve
Said it’s daybreak, if you’ll only believe
And let it shine, shine, shine
All around the world

Singin’ to the world
What’s the point in puttin it down?
There’s so much love to share
I’m singin to the world
Don’t you see it all comes around
The feelings everywhere
We’ve been closin’ our eyes
Day after day, covered in clouds
Losin’ our way

Hey, but it’s daybreak if you wanna believe
It can be daybreak, ain’t no time to grieve
Said its daybreak, if you’ll only believe
And let it shine, shine, shine
All around the world

Carefully Guard What?

October 21, 2007

With the help of the Holy Spirit who lives within us, carefully guard what has been entrusted to you.
2 Timothy 1:14

Although Paul is speaking to Timothy – he is speaking to each of us. What exactly have we been entrusted with? Verse 13 gives us the answer:

Hold on to the pattern of right teaching you learned from me. And remember to live in the faith and love that you have in Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 1:13

Deeper Understanding

Protected by Faith & Love

October 12, 2007

But let us who live in the light think clearly, protected by the body armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation.
1 Thessalonians 5:8

Faithful is Our God

Faithful, faithful, faithful is our God
Faithful, faithful, faithful is our God
Faithful, faithful, faithful is our God
I’m reaping the harvest God promised me
Take back what the devil stole from me
And I rejoice today, for I shall recover it all
Yes, I rejoice today, for I shall recover it all

Holy, holy, holy is our God
Holy, holy, holy is our God
Holy, holy, holy is our God
Holy, holy, holy is our God
I’m reaping the harvest God promised me
Take back what the devil stole from me
And I rejoice today, for I shall recover it all
Yes, I rejoice today, for I shall recover it all

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus is our God
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus is our God
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus is our God
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus is our God
I’m reaping the harvest God promised me
Take back what the devil stole from me(12x)

And I rejoice today(8x)
For I shall recover it all

Words Sustain Me

October 10, 2007

Your words are what sustain me. They bring me great joy and are my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O LORD God Almighty.
Jeremiah 15:16
